Why We Ride – Katana’s Story (A Letter from Craig)

Last week, I took a late-night ride in the Canyon after meeting with one of the children we support.  We were talking about the Forever Family Ride, and she shared with me the paralyzing and overwhelming fear she experienced in her young life.   After a lifetime of abuse at home, she escaped, but then found herself homeless and entirely on her own trying to survive the 7th grade without any support.  Once again feeling alone and hopeless.
 
As I relaxed into the flow of the ride last night, the smell of the mountain air was accentuated from the earlier rain.  The moon, slightly obscured by the clouds, added to the feeling of peace and freedom we all enjoy on a good ride.   I found myself contrasting that moment with every day of this young girl’s life, and the lives of all the children the Forever Family benefits.
 
The freedom they are deprived of, and their feeling of being entirely alone is Why We Ride for them.  Through the freedom of the ride, we let them know they are not alone, that there are people that come together just for them, and that until they find a loving ‘forever family’ of their own – we are the family that gives them a voice, support and the hope of a better tomorrow.
 
We have a great Forever Family Ride planned for you this year that includes breakfast, a traffic-controlled scenic ride route to the beautiful Sunrise Ranch, lunch and drinks for everyone, live music, and the world’s first Skydiving – Biker Relay.  There is still time to get a Free Forever Family Ride shirt if you register now.  And VIP donors are entered into a drawing for 2 seats in the Law Tigers Suite at the September 28th Rockies Game at Coors Field.
 
But I hope we never forget it’s never been about the Rally.  Its always been about the Ride and the life-changing power of coming together to witness caring support for children who need to know they are worth it.  And 100% of your registration and what we raise provides the needed emergency and ongoing care that offers each of these children hope for a better tomorrow.  When you check in – you will get a sticker for your bike with the name and age of the child you are riding for.
 
Katana went on to share that she felt her life was supposed to break her, but when she realized she was not alone every struggle made her stronger.  I am happy to share that after years of riding for her, she did find a forever family of her own. She is now 18 years old, she has a strong and determined spirit and wants to be a voice for other children that are alone, scared, and in need of support as she once was.  So this year, instead of hearing a story of one of our children you will be meeting one of them – as she shares more about her story and the importance of your support in a child’s life.
