National Child Abuse Prevention & Awareness Month
The Realities Rooftop Raise is our way of placing importance on National Child Abuse Prevention Month. During the month of April, we are broadcasting our message across the airwaves of all local Townsquare radio stations, and giving away pinwheels, the national symbol for child abuse prevention.
Children are suffering from a hidden epidemic of child abuse and neglect. In the month of April we draw focused attention to this issue. It’s a widespread war against our children that we have the power to stop, and understanding the issue is the first step.
Just how bad is the issue of child abuse in the United States?
- Every year more than 3.6 million referrals are made to child protection agencies involving more than 6.6 million children.
- The United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations – losing on average between four and seven children every day to child abuse and neglect. A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds in the U.S.
- On average, 19 new referrals and cases of child abuse are reported everyday in Larimer County. Statistically, 90% of child abuse victims know their abuser. This fundraiser will make a huge impact on education about this issue in our community.
Featuring Triumph Awards
Honoring young adults who have triumphed over childhood adversity. These exceptional youth are nominated by our Partner Agencies and honored for not only surviving the hardships of abuse, but triumphing over them personally, socially and academically. Winners are not only recognized for their achievement, but provided opportunities for further education and post-emancipation support.
Big Event, Big Goals
To tackle big issues, we need to host large events. The Rooftop Raise will be the most noticeable event in Northern Colorado during the month of April. We will own the airwaves in the month of April across Townsquare media radio stations, we will broadcast live from a rooftop, stream live, and ask the community to contribute to a big goal - $75,000.
