2021 was a record year for Realities For Children Back to School distribution!
Every year local businesses and community members work to provide new backpacks stuffed with school supplies to hundreds of children who have faced abuse, neglect, abandonment, or are at-risk. This year the donation support was overwhelming allowing Realities For Children to provide a record-breaking 1,056 backpacks to local children in need!
2021 Back-to-School needs at a record high
This year’s back-to-school needs were at a record high. Fortunately, the support of the community rose to the challenge and helped to meet this increased need for at-risk youth as they return to school. The outpouring of support was overwhelming this year and will be very impactful to students returning to the classroom full-time this year.
When the community found out Realities For Children was short 240 backpacks just weeks from the distribution, northern Colorado residents sprang into action and flooded Realities For Children with needed backpack and school supply donations. The generosity and support of community donors were crucial to the success of this distribution in helping Realities For Children to meet every requested need so that no child was forgotten. Timberline Church was a generous community partner whose collection efforts resulted in over 150 stuffed backpacks for the youth we serve. The community donations keep coming in as we just received backpacks from Abyssinian Church, The Fort Collins Board of Realtors, and Dr. Ronil Pala D.C. and his clients from Mountain Valley Family Chiropractic. These generous donations will continue to be handed out to our Agencies throughout the year.
Supplies collected for 21 RFC Partner Agencies
Our Back To School distribution provided for children served by 21 of our Non-Profit Partner Agencies. The distribution was held at the RFC Homebase facility where donated backpacks, school supplies, and gift cards were distributed to our Partner Agencies with the help of volunteers from NoCo YMSL and Fort Collins YMSL.
We appreciate everyone who stepped up and helped our local children in need when they needed it most. This special item distribution would not be possible without your generosity and support.
“The difference you are making in the lives of these kids is immeasurable. To be able to proudly walk into school with a new backpack and new supplies is so important to our kids, especially during these difficult times in their lives. All our kids want is to feel safe and cared for and to fit in with their peers, and your ongoing support reminds our kids, again and again, there are many people who truly care about them.” DeAnn Zamora-Schroeder, Case Supervisor with CASA Larimer County
