“Thumbs Up” to everyone that made the Realities For Children’s 13th Annual Bikes for Tykes distribution a success for 400 local, at-risk youth on Saturday, December 13th. Hosted at First Presbyterian Church and sponsored by the Fort Collins Coloradoan, the Larimer County Community, Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, Exodus Moving and Storage, Lee’s Cyclery, The Phoenix Cyclery, Breakaway Cycles, The Trek Shop, The Bike Co-op, First Presbyterian Church and volunteers.

The participating bike shops safety-checked and refurbished the bicycles to ensure safe riding for each recipient, and the members of Realities For Children provided brand new helmets to each youth at the event.

Community members were asked to donate their used and new bicycles to the supporting bicycle shops, where they were refurbished and safety-checked, to ensure safe riding for the recipients. These bikes were new and some used, in reasonable working condition and suitable for children ages 3-17. Training wheels were accepted.

When Realities For Children saw a greater demand for bikes - from local affiliate youth agencies this past month, each one of these groups stepped up their efforts and an entire community rallied together to collect, purchase and/or donate nearly 400 bicycles for abused, neglected and at-risk children – making this year’s Bikes for Tykes the largest ever!
